    Christmas 2025

As usual, we were kept busy over the Christmas period. We kick-started the season by joining with St Thomas a Becket Church Choir to sing at the switching on of the lights in Ramsey.  We were delighted to be able to be part of the celebrations and to sing in front of such a large crowd.

At our main Christmas concert in St Thomas a Becket Church, we were once again joined by some of the children of Ramsey Junior School Choir.  It is wonderful to see and hear singing crossing the generations.  As well as singing their own songs, they also had the opportunity to join in singing with us.

Finally, as has become tradition, we entertained the residents of Jones Court with a selection of carols and readings.  They very kindly plied us with mince pies and drinks afterwards.

Our 2024 summer concert was a great success.  With music from John Dowland to Abba, there was something for everyone.  A rousing finale saw the choir donning a wide array of hats - can you guess what we sang?

This was our first visit back to Warboys Parish Church since the pandemic.  We were incredibly well looked after and enjoyed performing there once more.  We had an excellent audience who not only enjoyed the music, but wind and cake too!

    "To Music"

Our Concert of Austrian music (with a little German music) was a great success.  We were treated to Schubert songs sung by soloists Lizzie Peacock and Simon Berridge alongside performances of Schubert's Mass in G, Haydn Little Organ Mass and Te Deum.  We are grateful to our soloist Lizzie Peacock and to our two soloists from the choir Jon Buckwell and Adam Southwell.  Our organist, Justin Waters, played the 1st Movement of Mendelssohn's 4th Organ Sonata as well as providing the organ and piano accompaniments to our vocal works.

    Happy New Year

We are raring to go at Ramsey Choral Society and we are well-underway with rehearsals for our Spring Concert featuring Schubert's Mass in G.  We have been delighted to welcome 6 potential new members and hope that they choose to stay with us.

Our Christmas concert was a great success and well-received by the audience.  The Junior School Choir were superb and we hope to work with them again in the future.

On Sunday 24 September at Ramsey Rural Museum Plough Day, we had a great time.  We were busy promoting our next concert, Faure's Requiem, to visitors from wide and far.  Alongside this, we were actively looking to find new members.  We did manage to send a few people away clutching leaflets with further information.

Our thanks go to Jenny and John who organised a tombola in aid of choir funds.  We raised £120 which will help towards promoting music in Ramsey and the surrounding areas.  Thank you to those members who turned our to help.  It was a great community event.
  • Review of our Mozart Concert

On Saturday 25th March, we performed our spring concert, Mozart's Requiem, to a fantastic audience.  We were fortunate to be joined by singers from Northill Community Choir, Community Voices Water Eaton and other choirs.  It was a delight to have friends of Fenharmonic Orchestra with us who provided an exceptional accompaniment for us.  Fenharmonic played the slow movement from Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, soloist Lorraine Schulman.  We also performed Mozart's Ave Verum and How Lovely are Thy Dwellings from Brahms' Requiem.

Once the baton was lifted, we all relaxed and gave it our all.  The audience were very appreciative and all the performers thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

We are sorry that our accompanist James Thomas has moved on to pastures new after securing the role of organist and Director of Music at a church in Rugby.  We have enjoyed working with James over the past few months and he will be greatly missed.

Lizzie Peacock, James' wife, has very kindly agreed to help us out for this term whilst we advertise for a new accompanist.  She has made an excellent start and we are very grateful to her for making the journey each week.
